Explore how ancient Rome governed water, from sewers to public reservoirs, with practical rules that shaped daily life.
This volume gathers core passages on the Roman approach to water law, including rights to draw and use water, public and private sewers, irrigation, and the duties of neighbors. It highlights the interdicts, permissions, and remedies that guided disputes and the maintenance of water systems in the ancient world.
- See how interdicts protected water use and who may repair or cleanse sewers.
- Understand the distinctions between daily and summer water, and how perennial sources were managed.
- Learn how permissions, servitudes, and public authority shaped access to water and its infrastructure.
- Discover the processes used to resolve damages when water flow affected neighboring estates.
