This is a very detailed analysis of ancient Latin Literature and the then - contemporary critical thinking that evolved with it. Much of the volume concentrates on the arbiter of literary taste, Cicero. Others discussed are Quintilian, the two Senecas, and Petronius - and while the strong influence of Hellenistic literature is duly acknowledges and discussed, the great bulk of the book revolves around Marcus Tullius Cicero. CONDITION -- VERY GOOD -- This is a previously owned book that remains clean and attractive, with the following particulars noted : EXTERIOR - Spine extremities are compressed; spine gilt is bright; surface rub is mild; the rear board displays a touch of near-negligible scuff. The text-block edges are lightly toned, else clear. BINDING - Solid. INTERIOR -The front free end-paper has the inked , dated signature of the original owner (who was esteemed Professor of Rhetoric and Oratory), else the interior is clean and free of marking.
