From the Author
"Role of a Lifetime" is a sort of "concept biography." I have taken four working actors--four successful, respected, lifelong semi-knowns--and told their stories. Taken together, they comprise a paradigm of the modern American actor's life, one of early stardom, late stardom; artistic birth and death and rebirth; triumphs and disasters; religious and racial prejudice; marriage, divorce, and children; and steady employment and just as steady unemployment.
My intention was to create a book that was inspiring and eye-opening to the young and struggling actor, but also a fascinating account to the reader who loves the theatre, history and a good story.
