192 pages, large 8vo., TEG, coloured frontis + 3 other coloured plates, pages uncut, foxing to end papers, some occasional foxing to contents. original limp red cloth binding with gilt roebuck being attacked by hound to upper board. The book is in 1/4 morroco clampshell box, cloth sides, spine in 6 compartments with title and rolled gilt tooling. Limited to 100 copies. This was the first book in English solely devoted to the Roe. Part 1 The Natural History; Part II Roe Hunting; Part III Roe Shooting; Part IV The Roe In Heraldry; Part V Management Of Roe. An extremely scarce title, there were 72 initial subscribers to this book, which included many leading sportsmen of the day, libraries and institutions. A book which seldom appears for sale.
