Mary Maccallan, just out of hospital is planning on taking it easy. The en masse retirement of her board of directors is still a couple of years away; but now with three of them dead in as many weeks Mary comes under scrutiny from Superintendent Oakes of Scotland Yard and his partner, human lie detector Aurelia Pucci.
Mary and Aurelia form an uneasy alliance but should Mary trust her? Aurelia seems far too interested in Mary's search for her mother a search that Garrett Maccallan, has roadblocked at every turn.
Seb Miller, encouraged by Bernie, is looking to leave his spying days behind. He's eyeing a private sector job which would mean more quality time for him and Mary. For now he's got his hands full helping to prevent a criminal turf war that threatens to spill over onto Oxford Street.
Another death and an invitation to a lavish country funeral leads Mary to the charming village of Bulrushe where Garrett Maccallan makes a stunning revelation and revenge has been simmering just below the surface, for years.
