Item description from seller
Stated Second Impression of the publication of the 1960 textual translation of Ian Scott-Kilvert, who here translates and edits the text. Another sterling examplar of the The Folio Society production standards, bound with handsome green cloth over boards, gilt-lettered author name and title to spine over red cloth label, sharply and distinctly, and with six gilt-stamped cameos to front and rear covers, of noble-women and horses, soldiers and politicians. Housed in a simple, paper-covered slipcase that has done its job admirably. Top-stained in red. The Folio Society was founded in 1947 by Charles Ede, Christopher Sandford (of Golden Cockerel Press), and Alan Bott (founder of Pan Books), three presses that shared spaces and philosophies for a time until being incorporated in 1971 and then becoming an employee-owned trust in 2021. The Folio Society began as a membership-based book club but then expanded its range to publish multiple titles in fiction and non-fiction; science fiction and fantasy; biography and autobiography (from the publisher's web-site). Previous owner's ink-stamped name inside front and rear flaps, that of H. Baldwin-Price. Plentiful, evocative woodcuts by Raymond Hawthorn throughout and including at frontis. [6], 7-343 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.…
