Item description from seller

4to, magazine, glossy covers, illustrated, 64 pp. Some spine and extremity wear, but still a very respectable cover, contents with normal aging and browning; very good. The cover features Joe Louis and Jersey Joe Walcott, which set the stage for a return bout on June 25, 1948. After a difficult first fight, which many believed Walcott won, Louis won by a knockout in the second bout. This issue provides a lot of information on Joe Louis, including a detailed account of his ring earnings. Perhaps the significance of this contest was that it would be only the third time in history that two African Americans would fight for the heavyweight title. However, boxingâs' color line was not as rigid as some other sports, and by the late 1940s there had been several African American world champions.
