HB 24th impression. 18.8 x 13cm. Brown cloth boards, black titles spine. b/w charts, maps. When this book was first published in 1903, the author advocated preparedness for was as being the best preventive of war. Over the years, his view changed, he became convinced that preparedness induced war. Apart from being an interesting book, it also has an intriguing provenance. Despite a dedication on the o/p, it became added to the many books owned by James Rusbridger. Publicaly he was known as an author of international espionage during and after WWII. In 1994 he hit the headlines as a result of his odd death, near Wadebridge Cornwall in 1994. Condition: Boards age and handling discoloured. Rubbed on spine + corners. o/p dedication in blue ink dated Christmas 1949. (Not to or from Rusbridger). Fold out map frontis, breaks in seam, binding showing, but binding holding firm. Opening and closing pages minor age discolouration, otherwise clean, little wear, binding firm, good colour. GC. Seller Inventory # 004787
