Item description from seller

Richard Bellman, "A Variational Problem with Constraints in Dynamic Programming" in Journal of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, vol 4 number 1, March 1956. Published by SIAM, Philadelphia, March 1956. Pp 48-61, in the issue of pp 1-61. Original wrappers. VG copy This effort by the compsci pioneer Bellman was important because it helped extend dynamic programming to optimization problems involving constraints — situations where a system must achieve the “best” outcome while obeying fixed limits or conditions. This was a major step in turning dynamic programming from a largely theoretical idea into a practical mathematical tool for engineering, economics, control theory, and operations research. 714.3.
