Seller: Adams Shore Books, Quincy, MA, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. Yellow cloth with blue stamped decorations on the front board. Titles on the spine are in blue. The DJ reads "Presentation Copy" and on the front FEP there is a sticker that reads " Presentation Copy for Harvey Gaylord (name is written) with the compliments of Time the Weekly News Magazine. Harvey Gaylord was the President of Bell Aerospace Corporation, who was involved in the management of the B29 Plant in Marietta, GA during the WW II. This is a stated third printing from March 1943. The copyright page states that the book was published on March 1, 1943 and that the first and second printing preceded this date. The yellow binding is largely clean. There are some light soil spots around the top rear panel and a smudge on the bottom of the spine near the word Knopf. There is a wrinkle at the top of the spine near the top edge. The rear corners are slightly curled. The top front corner is bumped leaving a crease before the tip of the corner. The fold out map is present showing the Gulf of Martaban (now the Bay of Bengal) on the Lower Burma map and on the opposite of that page is Upper Burma, showing the border with India and China. The text pages have some pencil underlines and marks. The bottom corners of the text pages have a wrinkle due to improper storage. I would not call the pages dog earred as the wrinkle is a wrinkle versus a crease. The top of the text block is colored red and has some light soil. The fore edge is deckled and toned. The bottom of the text block has a 1.5" diagonal scuff. Some the pages have small indent at the bottom middle due to this scuff. The DJ covers the entire book, but has been taped from the inside many years ago. There are some small tears and chips and creases. The rear flap in particular has chips on the fold of rear board edge. Pictures are available on request. The binding is square and fairly tight. Seller Inventory # 002479
