Paperback. Your portfolio just had a great few years. Do you have a rule for what happens when it doesn't?Most retirement investing advice stops at "diversify and hold on." The Retirement Guardrail goes further: it gives you a complete, rules-based framework for protecting the portfolio, income, and lifestyle you've spent decades building - before the next downturn tests all three at once. After a strong market run, it's easy to assume the good years will keep compounding quietly in the background. But a rising balance can hide real, growing risk: too much exposure to stocks at exactly the wrong moment, no cash buffer standing between you and a forced sale, and no plan for what to actually do - not just how to feel - when the market finally turns. This book replaces vague reassurance with specific, written guardrails you can follow on your worst day in the market, not just your calmest one.Inside, you'll learn how to: - Understand sequence-of-returns risk - the single biggest threat to a retirement portfolio that most investors have never heard of- Build a cash reserve buffer sized to your real expenses, so a decline never forces you to sell stocks at a loss- Apply a practical bucket strategy that separates near-term spending money from long-term growth money- Set dynamic withdrawal rules that adjust to market conditions instead of draining your portfolio on autopilot- Stress-test your current allocation against a realistic downturn before it happens, not after- Recognize the behavioral traps - overconfidence, panic-selling, chasing performance - that undo even a well-built plan- Put it all together into a simple annual review checklist you'll actually use Stop relying on luck and start relying on logic. This guide provides a rigorous, rules-based blueprint to shield your lifelong savings from market volatility and ensure your lifestyle remains unshakable during economic storms. Your portfolio just had a great few years. Do you have a rule for what happens when it doesn't?
Most retirement investing advice stops at "diversify and hold on." The Retirement Guardrail goes further: it gives you a complete, rules-based framework for protecting the portfolio, income, and lifestyle you've spent decades building - before the next downturn tests all three at once.
This book replaces vague reassurance with specific, written guardrails you can follow on your worst day in the market, not just your calmest one.
Inside, you'll learn how to:
- Understand sequence-of-returns risk - the single biggest threat to a retirement portfolio that most investors have never heard of
- Build a cash reserve buffer sized to your real expenses, so a decline never forces you to sell stocks at a loss
- Apply a practical bucket strategy that separates near-term spending money from long-term growth money
- Set dynamic withdrawal rules that adjust to market conditions instead of draining your portfolio on autopilot
- Stress-test your current allocation against a realistic downturn before it happens, not after
- Recognize the behavioral traps - overconfidence, panic-selling, chasing performance - that undo even a well-built plan
- Put it all together into a simple annual review checklist you'll actually use
