THE GIFT
In the late summer of 1994 I was given a most amazing gift bythe unseen world of Spirit. Nothing in my then 43 years sufficientlyprepared me for this unexpected gift and the odyssey that was to follow. This event was to change my life in wonderful ways I could not haveimagined. It would also bring together the many different threads of mylife experience and weave them into a rich and beautiful tapestry with adesign far beyond any my human mind could ever have conceived.
I had been a successful and accomplished massage therapist for 10years, but had for some time wanted to branch out into other modalitiesof healing. Over the years I had studied psychotherapy, hypnotherapyand astrology, as well as a smattering of other holistic healing forms, and had recently added psychological counseling and hypnotherapy tomy practice.
My personal life at this time was in a state of flux. I had recentlygone through a divorce, something that my husband and I had mutuallyagreed on. We had chosen not to have children, and although difficult, the divorce felt for me like a step in the right direction.
A spiritual seeker for many years, I had studied many of theworld's great spiritual traditions, and was a confirmed, if not alwaysdisciplined, meditator. I had been fortunate enough to work directlywith some truly original and inspired teachers, from whose wisdomand guidance I had benefited greatly. Yet, despite my rich spiritual life, and a fulfilling and successful career, my heart and mind remainedrestless and searching. I had the chronic feeling that I had not yetfound my path, nor my true calling.
One night I awoke at 4:30 a.m., much earlier than my usual time. Ibegan doing an ancient Taoist practice of healing sounds I had learned, trying to get back to sleep, when I spontaneously left my body.
At first I could see the room around me, although I was outside myphysical body. Then I was floating on my back in what appeared to bea shining pool of water. Completely lucid and at peace, I realized thatin this state of consciousness whatever I thought would instantly cometo be. With the next thought, I was flying through the early morningsky. Below me I saw a range of mountain peaks I did not recognize, illuminated in the rosy morning light. I moved through the Earth'satmosphere into space and headed directly towards the star clusterknown as the Pleiades.
Time seemed to be measured not in a stream of successive moments, but in thought units. In the next thought unit, the stars of the Pleiadescluster became seven beams of brilliant white light which came towardme and surrounded me. An indescribable sound enveloped me, abeautiful celestial harmony that was beyond words. I knew that thebeams of light surrounding me were great beings, although I did notsee them as having recognizable bodily shapes. A profound sense ofwonder filled me.
The Beings of Light produced three or four crystalline objects thatwere made entirely of light, golden in color. I was told through a directknowing that these light crystals were encoded with information. I wasnot told what the information was, but I sensed that the light crystalswere something like a computer disc, only much more sophisticated, and that they contained an advanced system of knowledge. Throughthe intention of the Light Beings, the crystals were then placed withinmy astral body.
In the next thought I was back in my bedroom, looking at my bodyfrom above. Then, just as quickly, I was back in my body—waking upto my normal, everyday reality.
Nothing in my years of spiritual work seemed to lead up to—orto explain—what had just happened. While I had been aware of thepossibilities of out-of-body travel, I had not had the experience ofleaving my body, nor had I been particularly interested in doing so. Iwondered for many days after this event what it all meant and whatwas going to happen next. It appeared I had been given some form ofinformation, but I had no idea what that information was. How was Imeant to access whatever was encoded in the crystals? Who were theseLight Beings? Why did they seem to come from the Pleiades? Whatwas the nature of this "system of knowledge", and what did it haveto do with me? I waited anxiously for further revelations that wouldmake it all clear, but none came.
In fact, my life went on with frustrating normality. Nothing atall seemed to have changed. While one part of me wanted immediateconfirmation that I had, in fact, been given some form of importantknowledge by these beings, another part of my consciousness knewthat, in its own time and in its own way, the nature of the gift wouldbe revealed. I had always had a strong skeptical streak, but somethingabout this experience left me no doubts as to its veracity. And indeed, inthe weeks and months that followed, the light crystal "seeds" that hadbeen planted within me did germinate—and slowly, sometimes almostimperceptibly, began to grow.
THE LANGUAGE
A few months after my out-of-body experience, while in oneof my regular meditations, I became aware of other beingspresent with me in the room. I focused my awareness on them, andsaw with my inner sight three beings, generally human in shape. Theirbodies were composed of a beautiful deep blue light, punctuated invarious places with nodes of different colors that looked like insetjewels.
I was not in the habit of being visited by light beings, anymore than I was in the habit of having out-of-body experiences. My meditations had, for years, consisted of the normal strugglesto focus the mind, observe the thoughts, and, if I was successful, abide for a few precious moments in the resulting inner stillness. While I was open to such phenomena as channeling, guidancefrom Ascended Masters, and the possibility that humans mightbe "visited" by beings from other star systems, I held the viewthat these ideas, while potentially valid, had no place in a maturespiritual practice. My current spiritual work was not what couldbe called New Age, and its teachings generally marginalized suchphenomena.
That being said, the presence of these beings was unmistakable. They began to communicate with me telepathically, letting me knowthey had come to initiate me into the knowledge contained in thelight crystals I had received. I had a direct knowing that they werehighly evolved star beings from the Pleiades. I also felt strongly fromtheir presence, however, that where they were from was not of primaryimportance. They made it clear that they wanted me to focus not onthem, but on their message.
They then began to instruct me in what they called, simply, TheLanguage; an ancient sacred language made up of "seed syllables." Each ofthese syllables, usually only a few letters in length, has a specific meaning,as does each vowel and consonant. This is a universal language of Spirit, they told me, a sacred language once known on Earth that had beenlost in time. A few of its syllables have made their way into other ancientsacred languages that still exist, but the majority had been forgotten. Each syllable, they communicated to me, has many levels of meaning, all connected by a core concept. This is not a descriptive language, but isinstead a creative or evocative one. It is not meant to describe the outerworld of objects, nor even human concepts or experiences, but rather toevoke the vast and omnipresent reality of Spirit.
The Beings explained to me that each syllable of this language carriesa particular vibrational energy, a specific frequency and pattern that isthe exact vibrational signature of the reality the syllable represents. So the word, or syllable, when thought or said, evokes—or in a sense"creates"—the reality that is its "meaning."
While I understood this only vaguely at the time, I had comeacross the Doctrine of Vibration in my spiritual studies, a part of theancient mystery teachings of both the Egyptian and the Indian mysticaltraditions. The basis of these teachings is the idea that everything, atits most fundamental, is vibrational in nature, an idea that is just nowbeing proven by modern physics. So I did have some reference point forwhat the Beings were conveying.
Most surprising to me, however, was their instruction that thislanguage is not meant to be spoken aloud, but is meant to operate throughthe power of intentional thought. Through the energy and vibration ofthought alone its syllables express the many, multidimensional facetsof a greater unity underlying all things, the nature of spirit, of thedivine.
The Blue Light Beings started my lessons in The Language with a fewsimple syllables and their meanings. Many of these syllables I recognized, some from our own language, and some from other ancient languages. The layers of meaning were quite new to me, however, and some of themeanings differed from the way we have come to understand themtoday. One of the first syllables they taught me was "KA," containingin that one small packet of information the concept and vibrationalsignature of what we would call spirit, ruler (as in King), great, thatwhich is above (or overarching), and awareness. Another was "HA,"containing the meanings "to come into being, to manifest, to ground,to come into the physical." The Beings instructed me to begin to usethe syllables KA HA, signifying spirit coming into manifestation, asone would focus on a mantra in meditation.
Continuing with their instruction they relayed that the syllable "PA"expresses the general concept of father principle, and also specifically thefather. In an abstract sense it represents the vertical plane of existence—thatwhich connects us to what is "above," the transcendent. At the sametime it can connote an expression of this principle on the physical plane:bone, that which keeps us vertical and lends structure to the body.
"MA" is the mother principal, and therefore also the mother in amore literal sense. It connotes substance, matter and matrix. This is thehorizontal plane of our experience—that which connects us to others,to outer experience and to all physical manifestation. In the body thistakes expression as the connective tissue, among other things.
"BA," they instructed, is the heart. At the same time it is the syllable forthe self, the center, and signifies the joining of MA and PA, the child.
"NOOM" is the force that binds all things together. One aspect ofNOOM is what we call gravity, and at the same time its fundamentalnature is Love.
I began to see, through their instruction, that this language representsa whole new way of viewing reality. I saw that from this perspective, what we call Spirit and what we call matter are not two separate things, but simply different aspects of one underlying unity. The Blue LightBeings did not elaborate on this at the time, however. They simplygave me the syllables and their levels of meaning. In this first visit, thesyllables they taught me were simple and general, conveying a basicsense of The Language and how it was structured.
As I began to meditate on the syllables KA HA, I had a beautifulvision of my own subtle body, which I saw as a golden light surroundingand penetrating my physical body, inlaid at key points with subtle jewelsof light appearing as various precious stones: ruby, turquoise, emerald, pearl and the like. On top of my head I saw a crown of gold and jewels, all composed of light. I understood that this was a representation ofmy spiritual body, through which I would come to know my truesovereignty as a Being of Light.
The Tree of Life
While the Blue Light Beings did not expound on what I was todo with this language, beyond using certain syllables as you woulda mantra in meditation, they did suggest something very intriguingin this initiatory visit. The Language, they conveyed, along with theunderlying view it embodies, is an expression of "the Tree of Life."Although they did not elaborate on this concept, they made it clear thatthe Tree of Life represents a way of perceiving reality based on unity,as opposed to the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, representing away of perceiving reality based on separation.
I knew that Genesis tells of a Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden. Ihad also read a little about the Jewish mystical tradition of the Kabbalah, which includes a mystical template of creation known as the Tree of Life. But although my initial understanding was limited, the idea struck a deepchord within me. I knew this was something of profound significance, something I would dedicate myself to understanding and embodying.
A number of ancient traditions, I discovered, have used the Treeof Life as a symbol of unity consciousness. It is a key symbol in thealchemical tradition, as well as playing an important role in the Esseneteachings and in shamanic traditions the world over. It has been usedto represent a higher state of awareness which enables us to balance andultimately transcend the apparent dual nature of the material world, including the dualities of self and other, masculine and feminine, spiritand matter, the active force and the passive force. In this higher stateof awareness, duality is still present, but is balanced and transcendedby a third force, which is neutral in polarity. This third force is theunifying presence of Higher Mind. In the Kabbalistic tradition thisis represented as the middle pillar in the Tree of Life diagram. In thealchemical tradition it is often represented as the central staff of thealchemical caduceus, the symbol that is now associated with the medicalprofession.
Over time I would become aware that the Tree of Life and theunity consciousness it represents are the foundation, as well as theultimate goal, of all the information I was to receive. The full extent ofthis understanding, however, unfolded gradually, piece by piece. TheSacred Syllables, my guides had begun to reveal, were the key to thisunderstanding.
Sacred Language
Many ancient cultures have a tradition of sacred language. TheHindu (and later Buddhist) language of Sanskrit is one well knownexample; others include Hebrew, the ancient Egyptian language, andMayan. Although my knowledge of sacred language was limited, afterthis experience I decided to do a little reading on the subject. In abook called the Hermetica, I found this passage, attributed to HermesTrismegistus, from a translation of the Corpus Hermeticum, esotericteachings of the ancient Egyptians: "Expressed in our native language, the teachings are clear and simple, for the very sound of an Egyptianword resonates with the thing signified by it.... Our Egyptian speech ismore than talk. Its utterances are replete with power." That sounded verysimilar to what my guides had told me about the Sacred Syllables.
I also did some research on Sanskrit and found that it was consideredin the Vedic tradition to be the divine language of revelation. In earlyVedic thought "vac"—literally meaning speech, voice, and word—wasconsidered to be a creative power. It was the Divine Word, the "motherof the gods," the force "that creates, maintains and upholds the universe."The Word was at the same time consciousness, breath, and vibrativeenergy. Sanskrit itself was never a common, conversational language, Idiscovered, but was primarily conveyed orally from teacher to studentand only later written down. And the sacred words known as mantraswere not meant to be spoken aloud, for they were understood to operatenot through outer sound, which was considered a lower manifestation ofthe Divine Word, but through the thought and consciousness of thosewho mentally repeated them.
My research confirmed that sacred language could indeed havespecific vibrational qualities designed to express and evoke the subtledimensions of Spirit. It also confirmed that these vibrational qualitieswere known to operate not through sound, but through consciousnessand intentional thought. Although similar in some respects to knownsacred languages, The Language being revealed by the Blue Light Beingswas unique.
Connecting with Spirit Guides
While this confirmation of the guidance I had received was compelling,a part of me still wondered, "Is all this my imagination?" Receivinginformation from spirit guides was still new to me. My spiritual work upto this point had placed very little emphasis on the spiritual beings whoinhabit other planes and dimensions, having mostly been concerned withinner states of consciousness, self-observation, uncovering and developingour inner essence, and the like. There were a few exceptions to this, however, which I am sure helped me to accept the reality of these BlueLight Beings and their strange yet compelling message.
My first experience with a spirit guide had occurred in my latetwenties. A psychologist friend, who also did work with guided imageryand hypnosis, asked me one day if I would be interested in trying toconnect with my spirit guide. Always open to something new, I toldhim I would. He then had me sit in a comfortable La-Z-Boy chair andguided me into a state of deep relaxation. After leading me in a seriesof visualizations, he then suggested that if it was appropriate, my spiritguide might make him or herself known to me. Sure enough, a guideappeared to me. He was Middle-Eastern in appearance and wore a whiteturban on his head. He told me his name was Alkazar. This was a nameI had never heard, and I was fascinated by it.
