This book collects research outcomes related to high-performance concrete as a civil engineering material, providing readers with targeted research experiences and case analyses. From the introduction of Portland cement in the 1920s to the emergence of the water-cement ratio theory in the early 20th century, concrete has become a robust foundation for the rapid development of modern architecture. Due to its advantages and performance superior to traditional natural materials, it has become the primary building material for modern structures. As building heights and design requirements have increased, ordinary concrete can no longer meet modern architectural needs, making high-performance concrete a necessity for engineering projects. Currently, high-performance concrete is primarily produced by altering the water-cement ratio and adding admixtures. With the gradual scarcity of natural aggregates, high-performance concrete can meet safe design standards while reducing resource consumption. Compared to ultra-high-performance concrete, high-performance concrete is currently more suitable for engineering applications and has a more mature and comprehensive production process and applicability. This book includes selected papers from 2024 International Conference on Civil Engineering Structures and Concrete Materials, focusing on the mechanism studies and applications of high-performance concrete. We hope to share the latest research on high-performance concrete with civil engineering materials engineers worldwide, especially studies on fiber-reinforced concrete and high-performance concrete for complex application environments.
Faxing Ding, male, Ph.D., professor at Central South University. In June 2000, he graduated from Central South University with a bachelor 's degree in construction engineering. In September 2006, he graduated from Central South University with a doctor 's degree in structural engineering.Engaged in research on material strength theory and seismic and fire safety of structures. Presided over four national projects and six provincial projects, published more than 240 academic papers, among which more than 120 papers with 2000 citations are indexed in SCI journals. Recognized as one of the top 2% global scientists in civil engineering in 2023. Published monographs include "Damage Ratio Strength Theory for Engineering Material" and " Confinement Principles of Concrete Filled Steel Tube Columns." Led two first prizes for scientific and technological achievements from industry associations, received the 2023 Top 10 New Technology Award in Engineering Construction from the China Construction Enterprise Management Association, and contributed to two 1st prizes for provincial scientific and technological progress (2/8). The achievements in Damage Ratio Strength Theory and the efficient seismic technology for stirrup-confined concrete filled steel tube (CFST) columns have been widely covered by major media outlets, with a total readership of 2.5 million.
Dr Junjie Zeng is currently a DECRA research fellow and senior lecturer at the University of South Australia. Dr Zeng received his PhD degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2017. From 2011 to 2019, Dr. Zeng conducted research at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he served as Research Assistant, Project Assistant, and Postdoctoral Fellow. Dr Zeng's research interests include fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for construction, FRP reinforced ultra-high-performance concrete structures, durable marine concrete structures and additive manufacturing of concrete and continuous FRP composites. Dr Zeng has made significant advances on applying FRP composites in civil engineering applications. The impacts contributed by Dr Zeng are demonstrated by his successful attraction of more than one million dollars worth of grants as CI, including an Australian Early Career Researcher Award. The significant contributions from Dr Zeng in his field are reflected by his strong publication track record including more than 120 co-authored journal articles and over 3,300 citations. Dr Zeng has involved in many administration activities such as serving as an editorial board member of journal of Composite Structures.
Dr. Sudharshan N. Raman is a Civil Engineering academic with interest in decarbonisation in the construction industry, with a focus on materials and construction systems. At present, he is an Associate Professor and the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, in the School of Engineering of Monash University Malaysia. He also co-founded and leads the Monash Climate-Resilient Infrastructure Research Hub (M-CRInfra). Dr. Raman was the President of the Malaysian Chapter of the American Concrete Institute for the 2018-2020 Session, and is currently serving as the Director of the Chapter. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK; Fellow of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE), UK; a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); a Member of American Concrete Institute (ACI); and a Senior Member of RILEM. Over the years, Dr. Raman has built his reputation as a researcher in concrete structures and materials, decarbonisation in construction, and infrastructure protective technologies. He currently sits on the Editorial Boards of three international journals. Dr. Raman has also been involved with numerous consultancy projects in structural engineering and infrastructure resilience, within the public and private sectors, both locally and internationally.
