Item description from seller

Reprint in the Smithsonian's original printed wraps with separate title page (not a disbound article) 16 x 25cm. 16pp (401-416) + 4 Plates (containing 7 b/w photos) + colour folding map of the Tigris Euphrates Delta 35 x 30cm as called for. Covers very good, creased to the edges. Text pages near fine, lightly tanned, uncut to the top edges. The plates only are damp stained to their fore-edge suggesting this occurred before binding. The map is neatly folded with some creasing. This contains Willcocks' presentation to the Royal Geographical Society in London on 15 November 1909, reprinted with permission from the Geographical Journal (Vol 35, No.1, Jan 1910). Willcocks had been appointed by the new Turkish Government to engage engineers and survey and level the rivers and canals of the Tigris-Euphrates Delta, and devise projects for the rehabilitation of the country. Willcocks' descriptions include historical context. The photos are of Ctesiphon, Babylon, Baghdad, Basra Creek, and "unirrigated Mesopotamia".…
