Print on Demand. This book explores the legal proceedings surrounding the arrest and trial of two Irish journalists, Richard Pigott and Denis B. Sullivan, for seditious libel in 1868. The book's focus is on the charges against the journalists, the content of their writings, and the legal arguments presented in their defense. The author delves into the nature of seditious libel and its relationship to the freedom of the press, particularly during a time of political unrest in Ireland. The trial provides a fascinating look at the clash between the government's desire to suppress dissent and the right to free expression. This book illuminates the historical context of the Irish struggle for independence and reveals the complexities of balancing national security with individual liberties. The book ultimately offers a critical examination of the state's response to dissent and the power of journalism to challenge authority. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. …
