Print on Demand. This book details the evolution of land titles granted to California by the United States between the years 1852 to 1867. The author uses primary source documents, including reports submitted to the office of the surveyor general, and legislation passed at the state and federal levels, to discuss the development of land titles under the various Acts of Congress that donated public land to the state. The author explains how conflicting interpretations of the Acts of Congress by the US and California authorities led to the confusion over land titles, and ultimately to the passage of a new Act of Congress in 1866 that settled the issue and adjusted the differences between the two governments. The book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of land ownership in California, and provides important insights into the legal framework that governs land titles in the state today. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
