Insight into Quebec’s mining during 1916 and its wartime push
This edition presents the province’s mining activity for the calendar year 1916, including how “production” is measured and what the year’s value say about the industry. It also explains labor trends, safety statistics, and the broader economic forces shaping minerals and building materials at the time.
The report highlights how war demand boosted prices and stimulated metallurgy, with notable shifts in mineral categories and regional activity. It also discusses the challenges, such as labor shortages, wage changes, and the impact on quarrying and related industries. Through tables and narrative, it traces value, volume, and employment, helping readers understand the province’s mining landscape in a turbulent era.- How production value shifted between mines and building materials in 1916 and why
- Prices and demand for asbestos, chromite, copper, molybdenite, and related minerals
- Labor force changes, wages, and accident statistics across mines, quarries, and mills
- Notes on mining investments, safety practices, and economic outlook during wartime

Product Description
I beg to submit the Report on Mining Operations in the Province of Quebec during the year 1916. The statistical review of the mineral production is followed by notes on the development of the mineral industry during the year. A full report is given of the accidents which occurred in the mines during the twelve months of 1916, also Dr. J. A. Bancroft's report on the geology and the mineral resources along the Transcontinental Railway, northwest of Quebec city.
The figures given in the Preliminary statement on the mineral production, published in February 1917, are superseded by the revised figures given in this report.
