A solid, handsome overview of the state of the maritime trades in the United States in the last decade of the nineteenth century. This volume introduces the rationale behind the exhibition, presents a full catalogue of exhibits, and highlights many of the chief industries represented, and many of the chief events associated with the fair. Included are many photographs of the exhibits; it is difficult to decide which is most impressive: the beautiful Burgess-designed clipper-bowed yacht Quickstep, or the Dreadnought-sized bottle of ketchup displayed by the H.J.
