Synopsis:

Since 1980, the idea of establishing child abuse prevention programmes in schools has gained in popularity. Educational programmes directed towards preventing the physical, sexual and emotional abuse of children have been widely implemented in different countries, including the US, Canada, Australia, the UK and the Netherlands. There has, however been no lack of controversy concerning both the programmes and the way in which they are implemented. In order to begin to understand and evaluate these programmes it is important to look not just at their differences, but also their similarities. This report assesses existing programme evaluations and makes recommendations for further work.
