Item description from seller

Inland Transportation in Virginia [Virginia]. [Marshall, John (1755-1835)]. Report of the Commissioners Appointed to View Certain Rivers Within the Commonwealth of Virginia, Conformable to an Act of Said Commonwealth, Passed the Fourteenth Day of February, 1814. Printed According to a Joint Resolution of Both Houses of the General Assembly, And Accompanied by a Map, Executed Under the Direction of the Executive, In Conformity with That Resolution. [S.l. (Richmond?)]: Printed 1816. 39, [1] pp. Octavo (8-1/4" x 5-1/4"). Original stiff plain wrappers. Light foxing and soiling to wrappers, spine partially abraded, moderate toning to interior, light foxing to margins. $250. * Only edition. Commissioned as part of an attempt to improve the navigability of Virginia's inland waterways and increase commercial activity, this report details the physical attributes of the James and Kanhawa rivers and discusses the current and potential costs of commercial transportation. John Marshall served on the committee along with James Breckinridge (spelled "Breckenridge" in the pamphlet) and four other men. Though the title references a map, the legislature did not approve the map until later in 1816 and it was likely not issued with this pamphlet. Not in Howes or Sabin. Shaw and Shoemaker, American Bibliography 39685.
