VINTAGESTAN BOOKS Title: Les Remorqueurs by Alain Croce Language: French Summary: Les Remorqueurs is a richly illustrated historical and technical overview of tugboats and the profession of towing at sea and in ports. The book explores the various types of tugboats from ocean-going salvage tugs to harbour and river tugs and the many roles they’ve played from about 1870 to 1970. It explains how these boats assist everything from small traditional sailing ships to large ocean liners, cargo ships and tankers, and highlights the skills, seamanship, courage and dedication of the crews who work on them. The narrative spans regions from the North Sea and Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean and inland waterways, showing the global scope of tug operations. The core of the book is its iconic and diverse photographic collection, much of it from the author’s own archive or from people directly involved in the towing profession, showing tugboats in action and the evolution of the craft over a century.
