About this Item
Caldwell, Idaho. The Caxton Printers, Ltd. 1982. Octavo (8 1/2 x 6 1/2). 309 pp. Limited Edition. Book number 65 of 150 copies published. Signed by Polly Rosborough on the limitation page and inscribed by Polly, too, on the Dedication leaf. Color photo frontispiece showing Mr. Rosborough fishing the Williamson River. Text illustrations by Fred Locke. Laid-in are five letters penned and typed by the late Paul Pursell of Chiloquin, Oregon; Polly's sharp-witted neighbor, bookseller, book publisher, retired high school English teacher, and good friend of many years. The letters are addressed to a book customer of Paul's and each includes references to and about Polly. They date from ca. 1980. In one letter, Paul enclosed a self-portrait print he drew in 1977 as a fully equipped fly fisherman; it's signed and numbered by Paul "3/300." Mr. Rosborough's book was written in a personal style that reaches back to an era of fly fishing not to be seen again, a return to the good old days, which probably weren't so hot, either; after all, each generation complains that the fishing is never as good as it once was in granddaddy's day. Touche, Polly. Paul Pursell designed the front cover illustration, proof read the ms., and suggested grammatical and structural changes to Polly's ms., to no avail - Polly rejected them, even to the point that a comma or semi-colon, either added or removed, was vetoed. The publisher played no editing role; it only bound the books as directed. The book is bound in full green morocco with gilt titles on the spine and Paul's gilt caricature image of Polly on the front cover. Matching green leatherette slip case. A nice book. The book, slip case, and letters in fine condition. Seller Inventory # 010544
