In a world of forbidden magic, two wolves fight for a lost soul. All Clarisse wants is to be free. Her life has been governed by abuse, control, and the Church of Light. Tired of ritual exorcisms and condemnations, she's at the brink of exploding. Her power is a curse-the reason she can't be free. Clarisse never asked to be in the center of a centuries-long battle between Terrence, a Reaper-wolf gone rogue, and Death, himself. If she has to spend one more minute under the controlling thumb of her parents and the Church of Light, she'll die.In order to escape, she must choose a side: Death is convinced that mortals wielding power is a recipe for disaster and damnation. Terrence believes magic is a mortal's key to freedom, enlightenment. maybe immortality. Will she follow the light of the stars? Or will she let herself fall into the grasp of the shadows.

Divine light is forbidden in the hands of mortals. To use it is to condemn oneself to death and damnation.
From the moment she was born, Clarisse Monroe was able to create and command stars—a skill that perturbed her parents and landed her in a cult to cleanse her of her forbidden yet divine gift.
After years of being forced to shut away her powers and pretend to be a normal child, she is tired. That is, until the shadow Reaper. Terrence whispers promises to her: promises of freedom, magic, and power beyond her wildest dreams. All she has to do is embrace the same light she’s closed off in her veins, guarding it from the view of other mortals.
Spurred to action, she begins to forge a life for herself beyond the clutches of the Church of Light and her greedy parents. As she leans into her power, she discovers some uncomfortable truths about Terrence and the real consequences of magic.
With the Grim Reaper now lurking in the shadows, begging her to stop, she realizes that her newfound freedom and friendship come at a cost. Now, she must ask herself: is magic worth dying for?
Fans of grim dark fantasy will love Remember the Stars, the first in the Tales of the Selyento, a series about what it means to be blessed by gods long forgotten and hunted by monsters that lurk beyond the grave.
