About this Item
This is a very nice copy. Brown leather covers with very bright gilt page edges (top, middle and bottom). The covers of this 170-year-old book have held up quite well with only a little rub-through at two of the four corners and some scuffing here and there (with a shallow gash on the spine). Age has not affected the solidity of the binding. There are no issues. And the pages are extremely clean (I saw three pages with a small spot off the middle edge). Impressively they are not age toned. There is some foxing on the margins of the frontispiece and the title page and the tissue guard between them. But it ends there. There is no other foxing in the book. There is a blue ribbon which is in very good shape. George Herbert (3 April 1593 to 1 March 1633) was a Welsh poet, orator and Anglican priest. Herbert's poetry is associated with the writings of the metaphysical poets, and he is recognized as "a pivotal figure: enormously popular, deeply and broadly influential, and arguably the most skillful and important British devotional lyricist.".
