Previous research on the topic has been scarce and produced conflicting results. The author conducted a large-scale field experiment involving measurements of 100 medium-sized software applications to reach statistically significant conclusions. The results showed that the FP counts from pairs of raters using the standard method differed on average by 15% and that the correlation across the two methods tested was as high as .95 for the data in this sample.
