Size of binding: 4 in. x 6 1/2 in., xiii, 127 pp. Old polished calf with leather title label on spine chipped away, and a one inch section of the spine leather missing, gilt designs on spine, and gilt borders on covers; front hinge cracked, some page top-edges show nicks. A binding requiring restoration. The scan shows the spine & front cover. Name in ink , and partly inked out on front paste-down: F. Tovey Leach 26 Drummond St. Euston Square London 1845 623; at top of facing endpaper, in blue ink: R. W. Chapman. Oxford Dec. 1901. (Robert William Chapman, 1881-1960); and a more recent book label on the front paste-down. The original edition was in 1812. Seller Inventory # ABE-527151331

12mo. Full calf, covers ruled in gilt, spine designed and lettered in gilt. Marbled end papers, armorial bookplate ("Alington") and small binder's ticket on the inner front cover. A few scuffs, light wear to spine ends, a very good copy. First published in 1812, a celebrated collection of parodies occasioned by the opening of the new Drury Lane Theatre in 1812, at which a prize was offered for the writing of the best opening address; these are parodies of the addresses entered in this competition.
