Item description from seller

pp23. good clean condition in the original lettered stiff paper covers with woodcut illustration. the covers lightly rubbed and a bit worn at the spine. light browning to paper. also includes accounts of the rise and progress of the trade, the different companies now engaged in it, and the names of the smacks and masters employed by each company, their equipment, etc. not to mention, "Medical Considerations on the best means of avoiding, or curing sea sickness.". apart from a little marking and light creasing to the covers, a very nice copy of this rare directory, complete with the folding engraved chart (suffering slightly from 'foxing'), the folding table of distances, and the insert stating that the sailing smacks of the London and Edinburgh Shipping Company have been replaced by "splendid steamers" (with a threefold reduction in the first-class fare). a slight oddity, as the paper doesn't feel quite 'right' for the publication date, however I can find no record of any reprint being issued, so assume that this is the original 1819 printing as stated.
