The scarce 1808 record of the official regulations governing the organization and discipline of the British Navy in the early 19th century, in a contemporary calf binding. The scarce 1808 edition of this work, which was published across the 18th and 19th centuries.Uncommon in any edition, this is the official regulation for the Navy. Prior to 1731 every commander-in-chief had their own code of conduct and instructions for their ships. In 1731 the King's Regulations and Admiralty Instructions were first issued. They were periodically revised following this. This work has chapters on the officers in General of His Majesty's Navy, Rand and Command, Salutes, Military Honors and Ceremonies, Flags, Provisions, and much more. The title page of this work has been bound in to the rear as the penultimate leaf, rather than to the start of the work as is customary. With the bookplate of Captain Richard Campbell to the front pastedown. He served on submarines before becoming a specialist in hydrographic surveying, a skill which took him around the world including Antarctica aboard the HMS Endurance. During the Falklands War he led the conversion of deep ocean survey vessel HMS Hydra into a hospital ship, which transported wounded personnel to Uruguay. For this significant contribution, he was appointed OBE. In a contemporary calf binding. Light rubbing to boards and board perimeters, with joint heads and tails starting. Front board a touch tender, rear board firmly held. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Title page bound as the final leaf to the rear, rather than at the start of the work. Significant tide marks to head and tail of first twenty pages, and to final fifteen pages. Pages otherwise bright, with the odd handling mark, and minor worming to tail of final three leaves, not affecting text. Good Only.…
