Discover a detailed snapshot of 19th-century electoral life in County Durham.
This primary source documents the register of voters for the Northern Division, taken on November 24, 1868, and lists voters by district, with notes on franchises and poll results. It is a valuable reference for historians, genealogists, and local readers interested in historical elections.
Traverse the pages to see how voters were organized by district and ward, including Castle Eden, Hartlepool, Easington, Jarrow, Gateshead, and more. The book provides enumerations by old and new franchises, plus analyses of townships and poll entries. The material offers a tangible look at the mechanics of a mid-19th-century poll and the communities that shaped it.
- Names, Abodes, and franchise status across multiple districts
- Columns showing plumpers, splits, and total polled by township
- Cross-district structure with detailed townships and out-voter notes
Ideal for readers researching family history, local Durham history, or the history of voting rights in England.
