Print on Demand. This book delves into the long-standing debate on the doctrine of hereditary total depravity, a belief central to many Christian denominations. The author, a fierce critic of the doctrine, methodically examines its theological underpinnings, dissecting the core tenets espoused by the likes of Calvin and Wesley. Through a rigorous analysis of key biblical texts, the author dismantles the arguments that hereditary total depravity is a fundamental Christian doctrine. Instead, they posit that the doctrine originated from misinterpretations and distortions of scripture, leading to a distorted view of humanity's nature. The author argues that the concept of total depravity paints a bleak and inaccurate picture of individuals, absolving them of responsibility for their actions. By challenging this doctrine, the author aims to restore a sense of agency and hope, encouraging personal growth and transformation. Ultimately, this book seeks to liberate readers from the shackles of an oppressive and demoralizing doctrine, paving the way for a more compassionate and empowering understanding of the human condition. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

Hereditary total depravity, by their own show ing, is the foundation of the self-styled evan gelical sects. The doctrine of total depravity, says Mr. Hendricks, in his letters to the 'self styled Reformers,' is emphatically fundamen tal. And he adds, the Whole plan of salva tion is grafted in upon the stock of total de pravity. The Rev. D. Holmes, A. M., says that genuine Christianity stands or falls With it. And in the Presbyterian Preacher, Vol. 4, No. We have the following° By nature all men are totally depraved. Human depravity is'at the foundation of the Whole system oi' Christianity. These quotations may explain to the reader a part of my title page, The chief corner stone of Calvinistic and Arminian secta rianism removed. The sects Who suppose the Whole plan of salvation to be grafted in upon the stock of total depravity, suppose this to be also true, I presume, in regard to their plans of salvation If I cut down this tree, or in any way eradicate it, its grafts, no matter how numer ous, must fall With it; or if the temple of ortho doxy has for its foundation hereditary total de pravity, and it shall be proved to be false, the temple sustained by it must necessarily fall; for says Mr. Holmes, genuine Christianity stands or falls with it. Unless I am egregiously mis taken, I have felled this tree -i have removed effectually and forever this ponderous corner stone!
