nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The eight historians who have contributed to this volume are united in two related purposes. The first is to demonstrate the breadth and complexity of the Progressive Era reformist impulse by examining individuals, groups, and activities not generally subsumed under the aegis of a Progressive movement' or progressivism.' The other is to honor their mentor, George Mowry, by demonstrating his crucial role in the evolution of Progressive Era historiography. Collectively, the various contributors illustrate the variegated nature of Progressive Era activism. Measured by the intellectual integrity of his scholarship and the quality of his students, Mowry is revealed as a giant of the profession. If Mowry had not existed, an entire generation of historians would have had to invent him. -The Journal of American History.
