An exile in the United States, Frank penned his critiques of 20th-century modernism as a reaction to the political climate before World War II
Architect and designer Josef Frank (1885–1967) believed that modern art had fallen prey to European totalitarianism, which was quickly spreading to the United States. This annotated collection of his unpublished writings includes a letter on Piet Mondrian before the latter’s retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art.
