100 copies printed in black letter on Pouncey's handmade paper; pp.(146); large woodcut satirising Wolsey's arms printed in red & black on title, woodcut device at end; light spotting of first & final leaves, otherwise a good copy in 19thC. half morocco, green cloth sides, backstrip rubbed but sound; inscribed 'A hypocritical, malignant, & filthy libel. F.D.S.' on fly-leaf. Roy assisted William Tindal in the translation of the New Testament, and wrote this stinging satire of Cardinal Wolsey and the romish priesthood with the monk Jerome Barlow at Strasbourg in 1527, according to William Shaw in DNB. Keynes p.30 enthuses on the fine production which recalled Wright's earlier volumes of ballads. Keynes p.88*. Facsimile Fine printing Theology.

Established 1975 in a Suffolk farmhouse, we now have five book rooms & a gallery at the old White Hart in the centre of Saxmundham, near Aldeburgh in Suffolk. Visitors are welcome but we open by appointment only except on Book & Artisan Market Saturdays (the second Saturday each month from Easter to Christmas) when the book rooms are open to all from 10am to 1pm. We also issue printed catalogues & regular email lists of new acquisitions, specialising in Printing & the Art of the Book, Wood-engraving, Bookplates, & General Antiquarian.
