Sixth impression - Left Book Club edition. 461pp. Edgar Parks Snow (1905-1972) was an American journalist known for his books and articles on communism in China and the Chinese Communist Revolution. He was the first Western journalist to give an account of the history of the Chinese Communist Party following the Long March, and he was also the first Western journalist to interview many of its leaders, including Mao Zedong. Red Star Over China is based on his visit to China on the eve of the Second Sino-Japanese War to areas controlled by the Chinese Communist Party when it was largely obscure to Westerners. In the work he recounts the months that he spent with the Chinese Red Army in 1936. Most of this time, he was at their then-capital Bao'an. They moved to the famous Yan'an only after he left. Snow uses his extensive interviews with Mao and the other top leaders to present vivid descriptions of the Long March, as well as biographical accounts of leaders on both sides of the conflicts. The book is bound in the original orange cloth covered card covers with black titling on the spine and front cover. The book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some light soiling to the covers. The corners of the front cover are slightly curled and the rear corners are bumped with some curling and creasing and a little bit of damage. The contents are secure and clean with age-browning around the page margins and some faint foxing to the fixed endpapers. There is no inscription.
