RED: A HUE ARE YOU ANTHOLOGY, is a treasured gem for all who are dazzled by the interplay between color and words.
RED: A HUE ARE YOU ANTHOLOGY, the first in a forthcoming series, captures the multitudinous ways poets perceive and respond to the color red in all its varied shades and names. A broad and bold collection (how could red be otherwise?), from early masters to contemporary voices both notable and new, RED is a treasured gem for all who are dazzled by the interplay between color and words. Reading RED, one is irresistibly covered in the color as if "totally saturated with it," as Mark Rothko wrote of Henri Matisse's painting The Red Studio. Curated especially for Jambu Press by guest editor Virginia Barrett, the collection embodies her keen poetic eye and inventive ability to gather together a multifaceted, invigorating, and insightful array of works fully embracing the book's theme. Readers of Red will be tantalized overall and transfixed by the color (imagine holding a succulent ripe tomato in your hand). This anthology makes a perfect gift for someone in your life who loves (or even, dare we say it, loathes) the color red. The poems in this anthology explore vibrant, diverse, compelling, and sometimes quite unexpected subjects: red in art and myth, red flashes in flora and fauna, the color as a conjurer of memories and deep emotions, how we adorn (or flaunt!) ourselves in red, a sudden gripping moment which the color evokes . . . and other red-rich poetic interplays. Six full color images of art and photography complement the book.
Contributing poets include: Linda Hogan, Kim Addonizio, Victor Hernández Cruz, Cheryl Savageau, Grace Bauer, Virgil Suárez, Sidney Wade, Anita Virgil, Adélia Prado, Reginald O'Hare Gibson, Marilyn Kallet, Dave Malone, Steve Wilson, William Heyen, Kim Shuck, Gwendolyn Soper, Adrian Arias, Nancy Ann Schaefer, Laurel Blossom, Suzanne van Leendert, Paulette Guerin, Olga Pavlinova Olenich, Bert Meyers, Jessica Loos, Andrea Potos, and more.
RED: A HUE ARE YOU ANTHOLOGY will gratify ardent lovers of the color and draw in others beckoned to be immersed in its expansive spectrum.
Poetry. Hybrid. Art.
