Possible first edition (but not verified) hardcover, originally half-bound in black veneer leather with blue cloth boards, is in Fair condition, having the spine cover material gone, the front cover hanging by a thread, corners severely bumped and worn (the veneer leather is missing from parts of them), and some scuffing and wear to rest of covers. THIS BOOK WOULD BE EXCELLENT CANDIDATE FOR RE-BINDING. Some shaking to volume, but all pages present; marbleized closed page edges. Illustrated with b&w photograph plates. A history of the American National Red Cross by its founder, Clara Barton. "In recounting the experience of the Red Cross in the Cuban campaign, I have endeavored to tell the story of the events as they succeeded each other, recording simply the facts connected with the work of War Relief, and refraining from criticism of men and methods. There were unpleasant incidents to relate, and unfortunate conditions to describe, but I have neither said nor written that any particular person, or persons, were to blame. It is not my duty, nor is it within my power, to analyze and criticise all the intricate workings of a government and its armies in the field."--Clara Barton. Medicine. History. Care organizations. Autobiography. Women's studies. Seller Inventory # 1198
