Hard cover in good, but slightly worn, condition; interior pages hand cut (some uncut), some age marks to front third of book but pages generally in good condition. The author is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and has transcribed records dating sometimes from as far back as the 13th century concerning the main roads, pre-reformation clergy, recusants, anti-Jacobites, rateable values, window taxes, prices of cereals, the lunatic asylum, pauper badges, cock fighting, the game laws, and police administration, among others.
