Also the ships have been checked off in pen throughout the text Wallace gives the name of the vessel, the size & weight, and where it was built and by whom. Also in most cases when available, the Canadian port of registry, when it was lost or sunk & the type of rigging; barque, barquentine or brig. This is a very comprehensive and exhaustive listing of mainly square-rigged vessels of 500 tons and over, except for those built prior to 1840. Even with these restrictions, approximately 3700 vessels have been recorded in this volume. Apart from the hope that it will be of some value to the archivist, the author believes that it will aid the collector of nautical paintings, prints, photographs and marine memorabilia in identifying his items as well as affording a source of basic information for the historian.
