Coles 431: 'He reached an agreement with the Mexicans which freed several groups of Texans who had undertaken military expeditions against Mexico; he persuaded the Mexican government to continue to allow American immigrants into California; he made some progress toward the peaceful purchase of California, and he reached several agreements with the Mexicans over American claims. Thompson writes about these activities but the book is mostly concerned with Mexico'. The author describes the country, its people, economy, productions, history, customs, etc and provides an appendix of diplomatic letters and reports.
