Print on Demand. This book delves into the elusive nature of consciousness, exploring the complex ways in which our minds perceive and make sense of the world around us. The author examines different perspectives on consciousness, from the viewpoint of psychology, which views it as a separate entity, to the realist approach, which sees it as a relation between objects. The book also explores the concept of consciousness as a function, arguing that it is a dynamic process through which the body interacts with its environment. This idea challenges traditional notions of consciousness as a passive observer and suggests a more active role for the mind in shaping our experiences. Through a rich analysis of philosophical and scientific ideas, this book offers a comprehensive exploration of consciousness, challenging readers to rethink the very nature of their own experience. Its insights shed light on the fundamental questions of how we perceive, think, and interact with the world, providing a valuable contribution to our understanding of the human mind. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

A second influence which has been at work is the doctrine of evolution. An attitude of mind which views all things under the aspect of development and which explains survival on the basis of a function served has wrought reconstruction in many avenues of thought. It was inevitable that it should finally make its attack upon a concept which hinted at a thing that was ready-made and too far removed from the things of the earth to be taken as serving a function.
