The book offers a timely and comprehensive overview of how oxidative stress influences chronic disease onset, progression, and management. A balanced view of antioxidants and their protective and potentially harmful effects is presented in this book, which combines cutting-edge biochemical research with practical health applications. A review of mechanisms that regulate cellular health, immune function, and disease resistance is presented in this book. The book focuses on key antioxidative enzymes and redox biology. The book covers topics such as the interactions between reactive oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur species, as well as the therapeutic use of natural antioxidants. There will be valuable insights to be gained by readers into: (i) The role that oxidative stress plays in the development of chronic diseases like cardiovascular disorders, neurodegenerative disorders, and metabolic syndromes. (ii) In terms of their molecular mechanism and biological impact, antioxidants and prooxidants play important roles. (iii) In the fields of food, cosmetics, and medicine, natural product pharmacology, antioxidant delivery systems, and redox-active formulations are of particular interest.
For these reasons, the book starts by pointing out that chronic diseases are becoming a global burden and that a deeper understanding of their molecular basis is urgently needed. A key goal of this book is to bridge the gap between fundamental research and clinical applications by providing an overview of recent advances in mechanisms, biomarkers, and therapeutic strategies for oxidative stress. A valuable resource for biotechnologists, biochemists, biomedical sciences and healthcare professionals working in biochemistry, pharmacology, nutrition and natural product chemistry and doctoral students who wish to understand and address the complex interactions between oxidative stress and chronic diseases, this book can be of great assistance to them.

With over 16 years of experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate biotechnology courses, he has made significant academic and research contributions. His primary research interests are cardiac tissue engineering, nanotoxicology, and the antioxidative applications of selenium nanoparticles. Dr. Muthukumaran has successfully led research grants funded by various national agencies to develop selenium-based biomaterials for cardiac tissue regeneration. His work is distinguished by its translational value and its emphasis on the protective and regenerative properties of nanomaterials. Dr. Muthukumaran has supervised numerous doctoral scholars in the field of selenium-based materials for cardiac applications and has established strong collaborative research partnerships with national and international institutions. His academic leadership is evident through his roles, which have played a key role in global academic quality assurance. He has served as Programme Chair for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for the Biotechnology programme at Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education. Dr. Muthukumaran continues to make significant contributions to the advancement of biotechnology through his interdisciplinary research, academic leadership, and dedication to training the next generation of scientists.
Kasinathan Kaviyarasu is a researcher at the University of South Africa (UNISA) under the UNESCO Africa Chair in Nanosciences/Nanotechnology category. He is a emerging researcher who has made significant contributions to biomedical applications through his research in nanoscience and nanotechnology. Functional materials for bio-catalysis, tissue engineering, and hierarchical nanostructures for bio-interfaces are the focus of his research. Intriguingly, Dr. Kasinathan Kaviyarasu has contributed to several textbooks published by Springer, focusing on nanomaterials, energy conversion, biomedical applications, and environmental sustainability.
