The contents of this volume focus on recent technological advances in the field of engineering design. Some of the topics covered include Advanced Numerical Techniques, Dynamics and Control of Structures, Finite Element Analysis, Fracture and Failure Mechanics, Solid Mechanics, Tribology, Nano mechanics and MEMS, Vibrations, etc. This volume will prove a valuable resource for those in academia and industry. The book will be a valuable reference for beginners, researchers, and professionals interested in engineering design.
Chetan Kumar Hirwani is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NIT Patna, since January 2020. He has completed his doctoral dissertation from the Mechanical Engineering Department at NIT Rourkela in January 2019. His research interests and expertise broadly lie in the field of mechanics and multi- physics analysis of laminated, functionally graded, sandwich and smart composite with and without considering the defect like delamination. The research findings and developments originating from the investigations have been published in reputed journals (with publishers like ASME, ASCE, IOP, Elsevier, Wiley and Springer), and conferences. He is also handling a research project related to smart polymer composite. He is also supervising more than 8 Ph.D., 4 M. Tech. and 6 B.Tech. students currently.
Anindya Malas is an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Technology Patna, India. He did his PhD in mechanical engineering. He specializes in vibration control and Nonlinear Dynamics. His research interests include control of friction induced vibration and modal and non-modal self-excited oscillation in simple mechanical systems. He has also conducted a comparative finite element analysis of artificial intervertebral disc replacement and pedicle screw fixation of the lumbar spine. Dr. Malas has published several papers in reputed journals such as the Journal of Sound and Vibration, Nonlinear Dynamics and the International Journal of Artificial Organs.
Subrata Kumar Panda is presently serving as a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in National Institute of Technology Rourkela, Rourkela India. He did his Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering in 2001 from C. V. Raman College of Engineering, Bhubaneswar and Master from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, Howrah in 2005. He has completed his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 2010. Prof. Panda has guided 12 Ph.D. students as a supervisor and co-supervisor and many M. Tech. students. He has published 200 plus research article in reputed peer reviewed journals, national and international conferences and book & book chapters. He also has granted three Indian patents. In continuation, he has also been engaged in research project from various funding agency like DRDO, SERB, DST, AICTE etc. as a capacity of PI and Co-PI.
Susmita Naskar is serving as a lecturer in the University of Southampton, UK. She has completed her B.Tech in Civil engineering from WBUT, India in 2010 and M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in 2014. In continuation, she has completed her Ph.D. in 2018 from School of Engineering, University of Aberdeen, UK. After completed her Ph.D. she joined Department of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Bombay as an Assistant professor and worked there for 2 years. Her area of research is static and dynamicanalysis of lightweight functional materials and structures. She is also expertise in interdisciplinary, combining engineering design, computation and fabrication.
