Item description from seller

Approx. 9 x 14 cm. Postmarked Ponca, Okla, Sep 16, 1908. Address (Mrs. Alice Collins in "Sioux Sity, Iowa") and brief message written in pencil. Modest soiling and wear. Pickett, an African American cowboy and entertainer, was famed for his method of "bulldogging" which involved biting the steer on the lip and then falling backward. In this photo, Pickett, his face hidden by his hat, is photographed from behind with his feet and posterior on the ground with his arms thrown up to celebrate beside a "thrown" steer with nearby men and boys standing or horseback, apparently having observed the feat. Pickett performed for the Miller Brothers 101 Ranch Wild West Show which had started as a local show at their 110,000 acre ranch near Ponca, Oklahoma, but had started touring nationally in 1907. This caption indicates that this photo was taken at the Miller ranch.
