Item description from seller
Language: English. About The Book: The Real India by J. D. Rees offers a critical exploration of British colonial rule in India, focusing on its socio-political and economic effects. Rees argues that while colonialism aimed to modernize India, it instead led to the exploitation and impoverishment of its people. He highlights the contradictions of British policies, pointing out the damage done to India's traditional industries, agriculture, and social fabric. Through this work, Rees offers a perspective on India's struggles under colonialism and the lasting impacts of British imperialism, urging readers to understand the true consequences of colonial dominance. About The Author: Sir John David Rees (1854–1922) was a British colonial administrator and politician. Educated at Cheltenham College, he joined the Indian Civil Service in 1875, serving in South India, including as Under-Secretary in the Madras Government and British Resident in Travancore and Cochin. After retiring in 1901, he became an advocate for British rule in India, writing books like The Real India (1908). He served as a Member of Parliament from 1906–1910 and 1912–1922. Rees married Mary Catherine Dormer and had a daughter, Rosemary, a pioneering aviator. He was created a baronet in 1919. The Title 'The Real India written/authored/edited by J. D.
