"It seemed neither the time nor the place for the birth of a Messiah who was to preach a doctrine of love. When Jesus was born, about 5 B.C., Palestine was a troublesome Roman province in the backwash of the empire. It was worn down by poverty, internal strife, cruelly high taxes, and a tyrannical ruler, Herod, king of the Jews but a puppet of the Romans. General discontent simmered in the country." --------- from Jesus: Man for All Time. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
