What if your child could recognize when a friend needs help, understand hidden emotions, avoid being fooled by persuasion, and build stronger friendships through empathy instead of assumptions?
Reading People is a unique, science-backed guide that teaches children ages 8–13 how to understand body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, emotions, persuasion, and human behavior through engaging stories, simple psychology, and practical activities.
Rather than teaching children to judge others, this book teaches them one powerful life lesson:
Understand first. Judge later.
Using real research from psychologists including Paul Ekman and Robert Cialdini, this book transforms complex psychology into fun, easy-to-understand lessons children can immediately use at school, at home, and in everyday life.
Inside this book, your child will discover:• Why our bodies often speak before our words.
• How to recognize the seven universal facial expressions found across cultures.
• The hidden messages in hands, posture, feet, and tone of voice.
• How to tell the difference between a genuine smile and a polite smile.
• Why people behave the way they do.
• How advertisers, influencers, and persuasive people influence decisions.
• How to understand the mood of an entire room.
• Why empathy is the greatest people-reading skill of all.
Explore 10 unforgettable story-based chapters:• The Secret Language Everyone Speaks – Follow Maya into a new classroom, discover why body language is universal, and learn the three essential rules every great people reader uses.
• Faces Tell the Truth – Learn the seven universal emotions, discover micro-expressions, and see how a tiny facial expression revealed the truth.
• What Hands and Arms Are Saying – Decode posture, hands, feet, and body signals while learning why feet often reveal what words do not.
• The Voice Behind the Words – Understand tone, pauses, sarcasm, and why the same words can carry completely different meanings.
• Spotting a Fake Smile – Discover the science of genuine smiles and learn the simple difference between real and polite smiles.
• Why People Do What They Do – Explore the Iceberg Principle, hidden emotions, and how empathy helps explain behavior.
• How People Try to Persuade You – Learn six powerful persuasion techniques used in advertising, social media, and everyday life.
• Reading the Room – Understand group emotions, emotional contagion, and how leaders influence the mood of others.
• Understanding Without Judging – Discover why kindness makes you a better people reader than criticism ever will.
• Your People Reading Toolkit – Bring everything together with a simple six-step system, a personal commitment page, and a fun 7-Day People Reading Challenge.
Every chapter includes:
• True stories from around the world.
• Child-friendly brain science.
• Practical "Try This!" activities.
• Easy-to-understand visual guides and comparison tables.
• Reflection exercises that build confidence and emotional intelligence.
By the final page, your child won't just understand body language—they'll become a better listener, a kinder friend, a wiser thinker, and a more confident communicator.
Perfect for children ages 8–13, parents, teachers, homeschool families, counselors, school libraries, and anyone who wants to give a child one of life's most valuable skills.
Give your child the confidence to understand people with curiosity, wisdom, and compassion—because learning to read people is a skill that will benefit them for a lifetime.
