A long-time resident of the Sonoran Desert, Conrad has long been fascinated by the diversity of animals and plants that call the desert home. Some of his earlier titles are Saguaro Cactus, Tarantulas, Sonoran Desert A to Z, Gila Monsters, Don’t Call Me Pig! (A Javelina Story), Desert Night Shift (A Pack Rat Story), Lizards for Lunch (A Roadrunner’s Tale), and Life in the Slow Lane (A Desert Tortoise Tale). Conrad J. Storad is the award-winning author of more than 60 science and nature books written for children and young adults. He has lived in the Sonoran Desert since 1982 and many of his books reflect his long fascination with the plants and animals that live there. Among his works are Meerkats (named “Arizona’s Best Book of 2008” by the Arizona Book Publishing Association), Don’t Call Me Pig! (A Javelina Story), Desert Night Shift (A Pack Rat Story), Lizards for Lunch (A Roadrunner’s Tale), and Don’t Ever Cross that Road! (An Armadillo Story). Conrad earned a degree in mass media communication from the University of Akron and a master’s degree in mass communication/science journalism from Arizona State University. He was inducted into the university’s Walter Cronkite School’s Journalism Hall of Fame in 2000, and is a member of the National Association of Science Writers, the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators, the International Association of Business Communicators, the Arizona Book Publisher’s Association, and the University Research Magazine Association. Conrad retired from Arizona State University in February 2010. During his 24-year career at ASU he worked as director of the Office of Research Publications. His duties include editing and writing for the nationally award-winning ASU Research Magazine. He also was the founding editor of Chain Reaction, a unique, award-winning science magazine written and designed specifically for young readers.

ABOUT THE ARTIST Nathan Jensen Nathaniel P. Jensen is the juggler of an array of artistic pursuits. He paints on buildings. He paints on large 3-dimensional canvases. He illustrates for magazines and newspapers. He has animated for television and feature films. He is a web designer. He is a children’s book illustrator. He’s the father of two boys and the husband of a beautiful art historian. His artistic path has been an adventure of great opportunity and achievement. Jensen graduated from the University of Texas in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. With pennies from a childhood piggybank, he created business cards and went into business as a freelance artist. He’s been working steadily overtime ever since.

About the Authors: Conrad J. Storad is a national award-winning author of more than 40 science and nature books for young readers. His newest titles are Arizona Way Out West & Wacky, and Arizona Way Out West & Witty, fun history/activity books. AZ Witty was named OneBookAZ for Kids in 2012 by the Arizona State Library. AZ Wacky was a national finalist for the 2012 Benjamin Franklin Award for nonfiction. USA Book News named his Rattlesnake Rules as 2011 Best Children's Non-Fiction Picture Book.

Nathaniel P. Jensen earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas and contributes professionally across multiple mediums, including architecture, 3-dimensional canvas, print media, and television/feature film animation. As an award-winning children's book illustrator, he has illustrated 10 titles to date. Often dressing the part of his subject matter, Nate enjoys presenting classroom workshops to students throughout the State of Texas.
