Paperback. A stolen lock of hair. A dramatic duel. And the fate of a tea party hanging in the balance. Satire doesn't get much sharper-or sillier-than this.Alexander Pope's The Rape of the Lock is one of the most brilliant mock-heroic poems in the English language, poking fun at 18th-century upper-class society with wit that still holds up today. But for many modern readers, the poem's structure, references, and older phrasing make it tough to appreciate the humor. This edition makes the satire shine. It includes a modern English retelling alongside the original text, helping readers understand the poem's clever wordplay, biting commentary, and epic parody-without needing a background in classical mythology or 18th-century gossip.Whether you're a student studying satire, a fan of poetry, or someone who just wants to laugh at the absurdity of high society drama, this edition offers a smart, accessible way to enjoy Pope's masterpiece.
