Book 4 Within the Ranks
They were buried as heroes. They rose as ghosts.
Talon Unit was declared dead in Antarctica-seven elite soldiers sacrificed to stop a rogue bioweapons plot. But the truth was darker.
Two brothers, Marco and Elias Virelli, were executed after uncovering Phoenix Protocol-a secret program turning loyal soldiers into expendable test subjects. The remaining five were erased from existence, their families given folded flags while they were hidden away as deniable assets.
Now Commander Nathan Harwood and his surviving men must fight a war in the shadows. Betrayed by their own government, hunted by their allies, and driven by the ghosts of their fallen brothers, they are the only line standing between Phoenix Protocol and a global nightmare.
Within the Ranks: The Enemy Among Us is a pulse-pounding military thriller of brotherhood, betrayal, and the price of uncovering the truth.
bout the Author
MJ Hawke is the pen name of Matthew Hull, an Australian author of gritty, high-stakes military thrillers that blend raw realism with pulse-pounding action. Drawing on a deep interest in global conflict, covert operations, and human resilience under pressure, Hawke crafts stories that take readers behind enemy lines and into the minds of elite operatives facing impossible odds.
With a passion for exploring the moral complexity of modern warfare, MJ Hawke's writing is known for its sharp detail, authentic tactics, and emotionally grounded characters. His debut novel, Operation Dark Hour, launches the Talon Unit series-a hard-hitting saga following Australia's most secretive special forces unit during the chaos of the 2021 Kabul withdrawal.
When not writing, Hawke is a keen researcher of military history and strategy, and enjoys exploring the intersection between loyalty, betrayal, and the human cost of conflict.
