He published the San Diego Union and San Diego Evening Tribune, which later merged into the San Diego Union-Tribune. Another former owner's pencil signature in top margin of front pastedown: "Donald Walters." Purple stamp dated 1893 on front free endpaper of the "Railroad News Co." (on Hotel San Rafael ad). Pages and covers are very clean and intact overall. Pages are slightly age-toned. Light foxing limited to front and back endpapers. Covers have light rubbing. Front cover has an almost imperceptible water ring and a couple small scratches. Moderate wear to corners, bottom edge, and head and tail of spine. Slight smoky smell to the book. A Very Good copy. A compendium of histories, travel advice, and scenic descriptions of places in and around Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and California beautifully accented by detailed illustrations, many of which show natural landscapes.
